More than 350 divers gathered in Victoria over the weekend to braved the rain in an attempt to set a new world record for the longest underwater chain of scuba divers.
Divers came together at Rye Pier on the Mornington Peninsula on Saturday and joined hands to form a human chain more than 270 metres long.
“It’s been a great day,” Diving Industry of Victoria spokesman Luke English told AAP after the record-breaking attempt.
“The atmosphere was just amazing,” he said.
The previous record stood at 308 and with up to 360 divers taking part this time, the group well and truly broke the record.
Many people probably wouldn’t think of diving in Victoria but the temperate waters provide countless incredible diving opportunities.
“It’s an amazing place to dive,” Mr English said.
“We have some of the best diving in the world, which we want to share with the world.
Some of the attractions include four British submarines and unique marine life like the weedy sea dragon.
