Yep – it’s that time of year again ladies! PADI Women’s Dive Day 2024 is almost here, isn’t that exciting? I love a good reason to go scuba diving, and this annual global event has to be the best reason of all.

Why do I love it?

PADI Women's Dive Day 2018

It’s a Very Elite Club

Female divers only make up 30% of the world’s divers, and sometimes that makes for an intimidating situation. By coming to a Women’s Dive Day event, you know you’ll be surrounded by supportive and female friendly divers. Here in Protaras and Ayia Napa, all the PADI female instructors from all the dive centers love to join forces. We take bookings that have at least one female in the group for this day and run our day the female way! You can join these events by looking at the new PADI Conservation Activities Locator and finding the closest one to you. Go on…..! Click here!!

Every Experience Level is welcome

Every woman (or man) can join in the fun. Are you a tech diver with thousands of dives? Or is this your first time breathing underwater? Whatever your experience, today is the day we can strut our stuff on the ocean catwalk. It’s an amazing day that you really shouldn’t miss. On this day, the ocean will be filled with pink wetsuits and pigtails from every walk of life. It feels like a family. It feels like home. It feels fun, free and fabulous. You’d be crazy to miss it.

There Are Fun Topside Activities, Too!

I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but here in the southeast part of Cyprus us girls will end our dive with a great lunch and a PADI-Pedi. What’s That? The Dive flag on your toes, that’s what! Want one? Take this pic to your nail technician and see if they can match it….or get creative and design your own! Send us your photos when you do!

Meet a New Dive Buddy, Travel Partner or Liveaboard Roomie.

Women’s Dive Day is a great opportunity to meet and connect with other divers. Since you’re all showing up for the same event, it can be easier to connect with the other people there, and it gives you an instant conversation starter.

Many Women’s Dive Day events specifically set aside time for getting together, sharing food, and swapping stories so that you can make sure to get in lots of bonding between dives. And, as I mentioned above, some events go beyond diving and work in things like yoga on the beach or underwater debris cleanups, giving you even more ways to connect with other people.

We’ve had so many divers tell us that Women’s Dive Day is where they made some of their strongest friendships within the diving community. And if you don’t have a dive buddy, this is one of the easiest times to show up solo and find people to connect with. You can check out great photos from previous years in the PADI Facebook album.

Meet Your New Mentor

Whatever your level, there is always a way to move onwards and upwards.

Are you trying scuba for the first time on the PADI Discover Scuba Diver Program? On Women’s Dive Day, you can meet a female certified diver who will give you the motivation to take the plunge and become a PADI certified diver yourself. Advanced divers will meet Rescue divers. Rescue divers will meet Divemasters, and Divemasters will meet female Instructors. Whatever level you are, you will likely meet your scuba mentor today. Isn’t that exciting? I know that this year will be the year for me to be inspired to become a PADI Sidemount Diver.

You’ll Encourage More Women to Dive

Diving used to be almost completely male-dominated, with over 90% of divers being men, and very little gear for available to women. But we’ve caught up a lot, and now women make up about one-third of all certifications. We’d still love to see that number reach 50/50, and I hope Women’s Dive Day can be part of closing the gap. The event has been growing each year, so let’s set a new record and get even more people experiencing the underwater world. And if you can’t make it to an event, you can still promote the cause by telling your friends about it or checking out articles about some of our amazing PADI Women.

Get Involved with Your Local Dive Scene

While it’s always amazing to have the opportunity to travel to a dive destination, most of us will be celebrating Women’s Dive Day at home. For those of you who haven’t explored much of your local scene, these events can be a great opportunity to get a look at where you live. Many divers are surprised by the great dive sites they’ve lived next to without ever realizing it.

Finding a Women’s Dive Day event near you can help you get to know more local dive clubs, places to dive, and PADI dive shops that you haven’t been to yet. And if you do frequently dive at home, use this opportunity to show off what your area has to offer. Many participants are new to diving, or at least new to diving your area. Showing someone around gives you the chance to see your old sites through fresh eyes and appreciate what you have nearby.
