I’ve always been an ocean child. As a kid, my family would take trips to beautiful beaches; Maldives, Kapalai, Tulamben, Bohol. I was in heaven and to this day I find myself drawn back to ocean again and again. And yet there is still so much left to explore.

This April, I went to the Derawan Islands – an island paradise in Indonesia. Here you’ll find Indonesia’s largest nesting site of the endangered giant green turtles and hawksbill turtles and a marine conservancy region of 1.27 million hectares.

Each island has something different to offer – Kakaban for the amazing Jellyfish Lake, Sangalaki for majestic mantas, Maratura for barracuda and Derawan for unparalleled macro life.

If you’re already a diver, then Derawan Islands should be right at the top of your list (and if you’re not already a diver the have a read of this article to see why you should be). Need proof? Take a look at the video below of my time in the Derawan archipelago.
