As a scuba diver, you see the unfortunate affect of marine debris firsthand. Whether it’s plastic bottles, forgotten nets or small pieces of trash animals mistake for food, you witness how debris harms our beloved underwater world. Unfortunately, the problem is only going to get worse if nothing is done.
This September, take action to dive against debris. The ocean depends on all of us to take steps toward putting an end to unnecessary pollution.
Marine debris kills tens of thousands of marine creatures every year affecting hundreds of species. Even local communities can suffer; when trash washes up on the beach, it is unattractive and can be expensive to remove.
Here’s what you can do to take action:
- Sign up for a Dive Against Debris Specialty Course. Learn the skills, knowledge and tools to be a critical part of the solution.
- Join a Dive Against Debris in your area
- Teach the Dive Against Debris Specialty Course (PADI Pros)
- Make every dive matter – pick up any trash you see at your local beach.
Every diver can make a difference, so take action this month to protect the oceans you cherish. If you’re short on time, make a donation to Project AWARE to support the efforts of others.
