Some of us are born with special powers, while others take a scuba class. Learning to scuba dive transforms an average person into an ocean hero with extraordinary abilities – like Jason Momoa’s titular character in the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures action adventure “Aquaman.” In addition to breathing underwater, scuba divers can:

Experience life without gravity

Scuba diving gives you the freedom to live life in three dimensions. Underwater, divers can fly across reefs, somersault over the sand, and float through passageways – just like Aquaman and his fellow Atlanteans do throughout the movie.

Explore underwater cities

Around the world there are reefs, wrecks and underwater cities accessible only to divers. A PADI® Open Water Diver certification is a passport to the other two-thirds of our ocean planet.

Be a voice for the underwater world

Scuba divers have always been at the forefront of movements calling for ocean protection including:
– Protection for sharks and rays
Condemning the use of disposable plastics including straws and plastic bags
– Bearing witness to ocean “dead zones” created by pollution

Interact with fish, seals, dolphins, whales and other marine life

PADI Divers learn how to behave responsibly underwater to experience the best possible marine life interactions.

Use advanced underwater technology

Rebreathers and full-face masks are just a few ways PADI Divers take underwater exploration to new depths. Using a rebreather, divers can swim through ocean just as fish do – without noisy bubbles. Divers who use a full-face mask can speak to each other underwater just as they do on land.

Communicate with fish telepathically

While such specialized communication is just another day in the life for Aquaman, PADI is still technically working out the finer points of teaching people how to communicate with marine life telepathically. In the meantime, there are some PADI Pros who have it down to a science.

For Divers, the Ocean is Home

Though not every diver looks like Aquaman or his partner in adventure, Mera, played in the film by Amber Heard, scuba divers share many of their “superpowers” and 100 percent of their passion for ocean protection. For PADI Divers, the ocean is home. It is their happy place where they can spend time with friends and family, and a place they will fiercely defend.

Check out “Aquaman” in RealD, 3D and/or IMAX 3D on 21 December (UK and the US). Follow Aquaman on Facebook or Instagram for more info and additional release dates.
