The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) is delighted to announce that Abyss Scuba Diving from Ramsgate NSW, has received an award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to PADI Instructor Development’.
Drew Richardson, President and CEO of PADI Worldwide presented the award to Peter Letts, owner of Abyss Scuba Diving at the Diving Equipment & Marketing Association (DEMA) Show in Orlando, USA on 6th November, 2015.
Following the presentation Drew Richardson commented, “I would personally like to commend Abyss Scuba Diving on the outstanding training they provide in the dive industry and through the years for having always placed high emphasis on the educational development of their staff. Congratulations to Peter and the team.”
In June this year, Abyss commemorated their fifteen years in business and fifteen year milestone as a PADI Member.
They became a PADI Dive Centre in May 2000 and after only two years had passed, Peter Letts and his team had achieved PADI Five Star Instructor Development Centre status. In 2010 they accomplished their long term goal of becoming a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre (CDC).
PADI 5 Star CDC’s are businesses which offer professional development beyond regular instructor training.
Abyss are currently the only PADI CDC in the state of NSW and one of only 7 PADI CDC’s in Australia. Staff qualification levels of their professional dive team are among the highest of dive centres worldwide, with 3 PADI Course Directors, 2 PADI Master Instructors, 3 PADI Staff Instructors and 3 PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainers on staff. In August this year, 4 professional staff members at Abyss became the first female PADI Explorer Rebreather Instructors in Australia.
On receiving the award, Peter remarked, “At Abyss Scuba Diving we have built our business on providing the best possible service to our divers and to achieve this – we need to have a well-trained, customer focused team. I deem the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to PADI Instructor Development’ as a reflection of the importance we place on training and developing our staff”.
In the past 12 months, Abyss has sent 3 of their staff members to the USA for further training and a fourth staff member to Malaysia for training as a PADI Course Director.
PADI Course Directors achieve the highest level of training of all dive professionals and represent the top 1% of dive instructors throughout the world.
Abyss have achieved significant success over the years to become one of Australia’s leading dive operators. Winners of multiple PADI awards and dive industry accolades, Abyss are also avid supporters of their local community.
Congratulations to Abyss Scuba Diving on receiving this prestigious award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to PADI Instructor Development’.
