There’s no doubt that PADI Mermaid Programs are a lot of fun, a great way to meet new people, and have new experiences underwater. Did you know that they can be a lot more than that though? There are a number of unique mermaid careers available to them that are not accessible to those without fishtails!
Here are just a few of the career paths that are open to mermaids.
1. Mermaid Show Performer
Shows such as The House of Dancing Water and “O” by Cirque de Soleil have reached unimaginable levels of ticket sales. These famous water-based stage shows recruit performers who also possess underwater skills, such as using monofins, and well, being a mermaid! Next stop Las Vegas?
2. PADI Mermaid Instructor
PADI Mermaid programs are incredibly popular and as such, PADI Mermaid Instructors are in demand. Becoming a Mermaid Instructor increases your employability level in the diving, freediving and water sports industries, or it could be your ticket to opening your own business and starting a Mermaid School.

3. Party Entertainer
There are a host of different events that rely on entertainers to generate excitement and engagement amongst guests. From children’s parties through to corporate events, as a mermaid, you could be the star of the show.
If you enjoy working with children, it’s a great idea to become a Mermaid Instructor, so that you can not only entertain children with your own mermaid abilities but also deliver the PADI Discover Mermaid experience, too.
4. Ocean Ambassador / Conservationist
With changing sea levels and climate change, bringing awareness of these issues to the global public has never been more important. Organizations that operate in the field of marine conservation and sustainability are constantly on the lookout for ways to raise awareness and make their campaigns stand out – and using a mermaid certainly does that! As well as career potential in this area, being a mermaid allows you to raise awareness of these issues via your own social media platforms, too.
6. Promotions and Media: Film, Television and Photography
From Parisian perfumes through to Pepsi, multiple major brands have featured mermaids in their television, magazine and billboard advertising campaigns. One of the best ways to obtain this type of work is to sign up with advertising and acting agencies and list being a mermaid along with your other skills.
