PADI’s newest limited-edition certification card captures a moment many divers dream about: gliding through clear blue water, surrounded by sharks, completely immersed in the ocean’s wild beauty. Featuring an image by underwater photographer, conservation storyteller and PADI AmbassaDiver Rachel Moore, the Diver’s Dream certification card celebrates the unforgettable experiences that keep divers coming back to the sea.

The image was taken in the Tuamotu Islands of French Polynesia. It is a portrait not of fear, but of trust and respect.

The Story Behind the Shot

Moore captured the image in a remote chain of atolls in French Polynesia, home to one of the largest shark sanctuaries in the world.

Moore told us, “In these atoll passes, you can witness hundreds of sharks aggregating in the strong currents.”

For Moore, the photograph represents more than a remarkable dive. It is a reminder of what is possible when marine ecosystems are protected.

“To me, this image is proof that conservation works,” she said. “It captures a moment of calm presence, a diver completely at ease, surrounded by a fever of grey reef sharks. There’s no fear, only respect and connection.”

That feeling is what makes the Diver’s Dream card so powerful. The image challenges old narratives about sharks and replaces them with something divers know well: awe. In the water, sharks are not villains. They are vital, graceful and essential to healthy ocean ecosystems.

Meet Underwater Photographer Rachel Moore

Moore grew up in Southern California and has felt connected to the ocean for as long as she can remember. At 15, she got her first job to pay for her dive certification. More than 20 years later, diving remains at the heart of her life and work.

In 2016, Moore left California to sail full-time aboard her boat, Agápe, and has lived at sea ever since. With a dive compressor onboard, she is able to explore remote places most people never reach.

“I’m an underwater photographer, conservation storyteller and a proud PADI AmbassaDiver,” Moore explained. “My work is rooted in capturing the emotional connection between humans and the ocean, with the goal of inspiring people to protect what they love.”

A Life Shaped by Wild Places

Choosing a favorite dive destination is nearly impossible for Moore. Every ecosystem, she says, has its own magic. Still, a few places stand out.

“If I had to narrow it down, I’d say the Galápagos Islands for their raw, untamed abundance, followed by Raja Ampat in Indonesia for its biodiversity, and the kelp forests of California, which feel like home,” she shared.

That connection to place runs through her conservation work as well. One of the moments Moore is most proud of came after a humpback whale she had encountered in French Polynesia was struck and killed by a fast-moving vessel. Through collective public pressure, which rallied around one of Moore’s images, new speed regulations were implemented to better protect whales in French Polynesia.

“It was a powerful reminder that storytelling can create real-world change,” Moore emphasized.

Connection Drives Protection

The Diver’s Dream by Rachel Moore certification card is more than a beautiful underwater image.

“The ocean is changing rapidly, and what we have today is not guaranteed tomorrow,” Moore explained. “It’s important to get out there, experience its beauty firsthand, and allow it to move you, because that connection is what drives protection.”

Moore believes every diver has a role to play, whether through storytelling, advocacy, citizen science or supporting programs like the PADI AWARE Foundation®.

“What we witness, and how we choose to share it, has the power to inspire others to care,” according to Moore. “And when people care, they protect.”

That message is at the heart of this limited-edition card, which is a celebration of the moments that move us, the marine life that inspires us and the shared responsibility we have to protect the ocean we love.
