During the Asia Dive Expo 2015 (ADEX) in Singapore, PADI Asia Pacific presented Simon Liddiard, Director of Blue Marlin Dive in Gili Trawangan, Lombok, with the PADI award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Scuba Diving Industry and Diver Training’.

Simon established Blue Marlin Dive in the early nineties and today has PADI 5 Star Dive shops on Gili Meno, Senggigi-Lombok and Blue Marlin Komodo at Labuan Bajo, as well as their flagship dive centre on Gili Trawangan which is a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Resort and PADI TecRec technical diving centre.

Over the years Simon and his colleagues have become some of the most experienced dive professionals in the industry, especially when it comes to Indonesia and the Gili Islands.

Simon not only initiated the growth of tourism on Gili Trawangan but he located many of the dive sites so popular today, for instance the Japanese World War II Wreck, Tunang Wall and Simon’s Reef.

SIMON-Liddiard-award-Tosh-Simon-DannyOriginally from England, Simon has been living and diving the waters around the Gili Islands and other parts of Indonesia since 1990. A diving instructor since 1986, he became a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor in 1992, a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer in 1994 and within 3 years had achieved the highest level of training in the PADI system as a PADI Course Director. He is also a TecRec Trimix Diver Instructor Trainer and in 2002 completed the first ever solo deep Trimix rebreather dive to a depth of 150m.

In recent years Simon has developed a passion and great interest in technical diving and teaching with closed circuit rebreathers and trimix. “I have the luxury of teaching deep trimix CCR courses for my personal enjoyment and not for income. My goal is to make each CCR diver the best they can be no matter how long it takes”.

Please join PADI Asia Pacific in congratulating Simon Liddiard on achieving the PADI award for – Outstanding Contribution to the Scuba Diving Industry and Diver Training.
