In celebration of World Whale Day, we have joined forces with the innovative wellness brand Neuro, embarking on a mission to spearhead ocean conservation and nurture a blue state of mind. This alliance is more than just a partnership; it’s a journey towards creating a positive ripple across our vast oceans.
A Splash of Art and Conservation
Kicking off this wave of change, Neuro developed a collection of two exclusive, reusable Neuro x PADI tins, which sold out within the first month of their launch. But good news! Neuro are currently restocking the tins, and they should be available again this summer.
These aren’t just any tins; they’re a canvas showcasing the stunning artwork of Neuro co-founder and muralist Kent Yoshimura. In fact, the first tin features a majestic whale breaching the ocean’s surface. But here’s the best part – 20% of the profits from these tins, which are designed to hold Neuro bulk products, will be donated directly to the PADI AWARE Foundation, with a generous commitment of at least USD $100,000 by the end of 2024 to support ocean conservation.
“The whale is symbolic of how everything is interconnected and small changes can have a huge impact upon our ocean – and all life that calls it home,” explains Yoshimura. “By refilling and using this tin, you’ll cut down on your packaging waste, fuel yourself with clean ingredients to live your best life, and do more for all vulnerable marine species.”
PADI’s mission is to inspire one in ten people to become Ocean Torchbearers, champions of marine conservation. Our collaboration with Neuro is a testament to our shared vision of a healthier planet and the belief that each of us has the power to make a difference.
Uniting for a Greater Purpose
Neuro, born from a dive trip to Catalina in California and a vision for sustainable wellness by Yoshimura and Ryan Chen, has evolved from a budding idea into a national sensation, thanks to their dedication and a memorable pitch on the television show Shark Tank. The brand’s mission transcends environmental protection, aiming for a holistic sustainability that nurtures every creature, big and small, beneath the waves.
Similarly, PADI believes in empowering individuals to discover their “blue mind” – a profound awareness of how personal wellbeing is intricately linked to our oceans’ health.
“Just like Neuro, PADI empowers people to become the best version of themselves when they are in a state of ‘blue mind’, where you become deeply aware of your own personal health’s connection to that of our blue planet’s – realizing that your own wellbeing gives you superpowers to make a real difference,” says Julie Andersen, PADI’s Senior Director of Brand. “We are obsessed with creating positive ocean change and transforming lives by making the wonder of the underwater world accessible to all and ensuring that communities and ecosystems live in harmony that mutually support one another. Together, we are magnifying our powers to do more by raising awareness to the issues facing our ocean, while at the same time, providing meaningful ways to take action.”
The Healing Power of the Ocean
For Yoshimura and Chen, scuba diving is more than a hobby; it is a source of inspiration and wellbeing, leading to the inception of Neuro.
For Chen, earning his PADI Open Water Diver certification also provided him with a pivotal moment in his own healing journey after he had suffered a tragic snowboarding accident that left him partially paralyzed. He became certified through the PADI Adaptive Techniques Diving course and benefited greatly from the physical and mental therapy the sport of scuba diving provides. Soon after, his renewed sense of purpose led him to be named to Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2019.
