Whether you celebrate Halloween, Día de Muertos or Samhain, you can take your love of the Spooky Season underwater. Here are some Distinctive Specialty courses to get you in the spirit.

1. Underwater Pumpkin Carving

Many PADI Dive Shops host underwater pumpkin carving contests and some even offer a Distinctive Specialty class for the event, teaching multi-tasking, buoyancy techniques and having fun at the same time. 2. Zombie Apocalypse Diver

The PADI Zombie Apocalypse Diver Distinctive Specialty course is a tongue-in-cheek mix of survival strategies and practical skill-building. 3. Fluorescence Diver

Fluorescence diving, also known as fluoro diving, gives the underwater world an eerie glow. A special mask filter and blue light illuminate unseen aspects of the reef at night. The PADI Fluorescence Diver Distinctive Specialty is offered by a variety of PADI Dive Shops and Instructors around the world including VIP Diving Bonaire and Atlantis Philippines.

4. Blackwater Diving

If you’re fascinated by the oddballs of the ocean, bonfire diving or blackwater diving might be for you. Blackwater diving involves hanging on a line suspended above deep water. Jack’s Diving Locker in Kona, HI, USA, offers a Pelagic Magic Distinctive Specialty course and Pura Vida Divers in Florida, USA, offers a Blackwater Drift Diving Distinctive Specialty.

5. Scuba Magician

Treat your dive buddies to some tricks from the Scuba Magician Distinctive Specialty course. Created by an award-winning magician from Hollywood’s Magic Castle, the Scuba Magician Distinctive Specialty is designed for people with no magical experience.

More than 181 instructors and 13 PADI Dive Shops offer the Scuba Magician Distinctive Specialty. Contact your local dive shop to enroll.

Or Try a Night Diver Specialty Course

Don’t despair if your dive shop doesn’t offer one of the Distinctive Specialties mentioned above. Nearly every dive shop offers the PADI Night Diver course.

Night Diving isn’t scary, but some new divers may feel uneasy about diving at night. Whether night diving has been on your list for ages or it’s a fear you want to overcome, Halloween is the perfect time to give it a go.

Love Costumes? Consider a PADI Mermaid Course

If you love Halloween because you love dressing up, consider becoming a real-life mermaid by taking a PADI Mermaid course. This isn’t a Distinctive Specialty course, but a full path of courses, which can even lead to a professional career.

So, if you want to go beyond dressing up and embody a creature from the deep, check out PADI’s Mermaid courses

Whether you want to carve pumpkins beneath the waves, master the art of scuba sorcery or dive into the depths on a fluoro or blackwater adventure, there’s a Distinctive Specialty for every spooky-season spirit.

Reach out to your local PADI Dive Shop to find out which Distinctive Specialty courses or special Halloween events they’re offering this year. It’s the perfect time to try something new, earn a unique certification (that counts toward your Master Scuba Diver rating) and make this Halloween one to remember.
