Whether you’re new to diving and trying to decide which PADI courses will be part of your journey or you’re a PADI Rescue Diver wondering what to do next, this quiz will help you decide whether to work towards Divemaster or Master Scuba Diver.

First, here’s a very brief explanation of the difference between PADI Divemaster and Master Scuba Diver. If you want a more detailed overview, watch the video below.

  • Divemaster is the first rung on the PADI Professional ladder and the first step to a career in diving.
  • Master Scuba Diver is the highest recreational diver rating.

Note: You don’t have to choose between becoming a Divemaster or a Master Scuba Diver. Many divers (myself included) are PADI Divemasters and PADI Master Scuba Divers, too.

How Did You Score?

Mostly “A” answers? You enjoy sharing your expertise and don’t shy away from responsibility. There’s a good chance you will enjoy the PADI Divemaster course and become a successful Divemaster. Learn more about what becoming a PADI Divemaster is all about in the free online course Intro to Divemaster.

Mostly “B” answers? You’re a passionate diver who likes to explore and try new things, but you don’t want to be responsible for other divers (besides your buddy). Master Scuba Diver may be a better path for you. That said, there are a lot of reasons to become a Divemaster, even if you don’t plan to work in the dive industry.
