Do I Need to Be an Experienced Diver for a Red Sea Liveaboard?
Most liveaboards in the Red Sea require an Open Water Diver certification at minimum. Liveaboards that venture to more extreme routes (e.g., deeper depths or stronger currents) will often require an Advanced-level certification at minimum.
When booking a liveaboard with PADI Travel, head to the “Itinerary” section of the liveaboard before booking, which will detail the certification requirements for the safari.
When is the Best Time of Year to Dive in the Red Sea?
The Red Sea is one of divers’ favourite “year-round” dive destinations, thanks to its temperate climate even in the winter months! Year-round, the water temperatures range between 21°C and 30°C. Between June and September, temperatures can reach a scorching 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) and the water at its highest.
Visiting majoritively depends on the marine life you’re keen to spot and the temperatures you can handle! For thriving reef fish, colourful corals and calm current and mild surface temperatures, visit during Spring or Fall (April to June or September/October). If you’re comfortable with a warm climate and in search of sharks (think hammerheads, reef sharks and whale sharks), visit between June and September!
What Amenities Do They Have Onboard?
In general, liveaboards across the globe feature all amenities for a comfortable day-to-day experience. This includes bathrooms, showers, air conditioning, comfortable beds and areas for privacy. Depending on the luxury level of the liveaboard, some include private bathrooms, private cabins and even extra services like massages, yoga classes and private dive guides.
Do I Need to Bring My Own Equipment?
When diving on a liveaboard, you have two options regarding equipment: either bring your own kit (excluding tanks) or rent a full kit from the dive operator. If you prefer to travel light, the rental options might be best for you! Be mindful that equipment rental may come at an extra cost, so check this with your scuba travel agent before booking.
How Many Dives are Included?
The number of dives included on your liveaboard depends on the length and the water conditions. A 3-night/4-day liveaboard typically includes 3-4 dives, while a 7-night/8-day safari will include around 17 to 19 dives. A longer liveaboard will include more.
